June 07, 2009 10:02 AM PDT
Back in 1984, a number of music lovers, got together to bring their influences and inspirations to their friends in Leicester….they created the moniker “Classic Groove Control” and set up at a little known dance hall called Spectrum in the heart of the city centre.Influenced by the All Dayer/All Niter scenes in Nottingham and Birmingham, they brought a fresh sound amongst the commercial nightlife that was killing the city nightlife.Mixing 80s soul/boogie with touch of reggae dance hall, they quickly gained respect from their peers and those likeminded throughout the Midlands. They evolved as the music scene evolved, incorporating Hip Hop, House and Rare grooves seamlessly into their DJ sets. Members came and went, but the ethos remained….Good quality music for those who wished to listen.Founders Paul “The Knowledge” Lewis and Derek “The Strange One” Inman, would like to thank you those of you who attended Spectrum, The Fish and Quart, Mr Keisa’s, Asquiths, George’s, Rangers, Jokers, Luxor, LUCA, Workshop, Starlite, Rock City, The Powerhouse, The Place in Stoke, Pink Coconut, Southport Weekender and others too numerous to mention will know where we’ve been and are coming from.

Podcast Summarysadly, our new internet radio station www.futurebeatradio.com has gone to radio heaven. Until I find a new home,i will updating podcast mixes for Dload every fortnight.... enjoy these podcasts, send me some comments good and bad, cos I'm big enuff to take the ruff wiv da smooth About TheBiogs are too hard to put into words…esp mine, but history wise, I'm been influenced since the womb, in 1964. We were always very musical in our family home, Mum n Dad loved Elvis and the rock n roll thingy. But it was my elder sister that introduced us to the disco sounds of the 70s, cos she used to go to The Horsefair, in the market place in Leicester. I dabbeled in my younger days into all types, be it punk, soul, boogie, until I first went to Junior Palais. The DJ was Bob Young and he played all this US import funk, soul n disco in between the mainstream. Then we were introduced to Nottingham Palais, and I was influenced by a DJ called Jonathan. I wanted to do what he did. I joined up with Paul Lewis and Krip to form Classic Groove Control. We danced and played across the midlands and beyond- Rock city, Powerhouse, shades in P'boro, Tithe Barn in W'boro, etc etc etc. Then someone dropped a new sound in 1985… Chicago House and we wuz hooked!!!! And I still am, regularly attending events across the country, the most notable being Southport Weekender. All of us used to go out for the music, something that's lost in our bar and designer wear culture. I want to bring that vibe back, all music forms with the base being soul in one room. you don't know what's coming, but you get off on the vibe. I'm giving back what the majority isn't aware of at the moment. I'm DJing here to educate those people who want to listen… it's my purpose in life. Fans of this ShowFavorite LinksThe's Friends
